Obituary of Eugene Haber

Eugene S. "Gene" Haber, 61, of Vermilion, died Monday, April 16, 2018 at Firelands Regional Medical Center Main Campus after a courageous battle with cancer.


He was born June 27, 1956 in Lorain and had been a life long Vermilion resident.


Gene worked in the maintenance department for Lithonia Lighting, Vermilion for 30 years. He then became an Engineer for Norfolk Southern in Bellevue where he has worked for the past 12 years.


He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion and a past member of Vermilion Fish and Game. He enjoyed showing his truck and jeep, camping, playing darts, bowling, having cookouts, and spending time with his family and his dog Lexie.


He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary (nee Marks) Haber of Vermilion; daughters, Renee (Matt) Jennings of Travelers Rest, SC and Carrie (Adam) Lange of Aurora; granddaughters, Ella, Rachel, Nora, and Claire; brother, Richard (Patty) Haber of Lorain; and his sister, Karen (Rodger) Scott of Vermilion.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Arland and Elizabeth (nee Schroeder) Haber; brother, Dale Haber; and his nephew, Shawn Scott.


The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 9:00 am until the time of a Memorial Mass at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH. The Reverend Ron Brickner will officiate.


The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Mary School Endowment Fund, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH 44089.
