Obituary of Adele Kovanic

 Adele Agnes Kovanic, 97, of Vermilion, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at her home following a lengthy illness.

Adele was born December 17, 1920 in Cleveland, OH, and had been a life long Vermilion resident.

She received her bachelors degree from DeSailes College, Toledo and her masters from Case Western Reserve, Cleveland.

Adele was a music teacher for Birmingham schools for 2 years, Vermilion schools for 36 years and was a church organist for 75 years at St. Mary's in Vermilion, and various other churches in Brownhelm and Lorain. She enjoyed music, golf, watching sports, especially basketball, and traveling that included China and France.

She was a member of St. Mary Church, Vermilion, Vermilion Teachers Association, Ohio Education Association, National Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Vermilion College Club, and the  Firelands Audubon Society, Erie Chapter.  

She is survived by her 1st cousin Ed Kovanic and 2nd cousins Ron, Bob, Ken and Kathy Kovanic.
ACC Adult Home Care provided care for Adele for many years, and she will be deeply missed by her caregivers, Jolinda Stotzer and Melva Sherwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth (nee Vozik) Kovanic and sister, Elsie Kovanic.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm with a  Rosary service at 7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. be at 7 pm .   Closing prayers will be Friday, May 11, 2018 at 10:00 am the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church, 751 Exchange St., Vermilion, OH. The Reverend Ron Brickner will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
